Timoptic Overview
Timoptic is a prescription medication used to treat increased pressure in the eye caused by glaucoma or a condition called ocular hypertension. Timoptic belongs to a group of drugs called beta blockers. It works by decreasing pressure in the eye.
Timoptic is available as an ophthalmic solution (eye drop) and is usually used one drop in the affected eye(s) 1 or 2 times a day. It is also available as a gel-forming liquid drop to be placed in the eye that is used one drop in the affected eye(s) once a day.
Common side effects of Timoptic solution include burning or stinging in the eye after placing the drop, headache, and eye irritation.
Common side effects of the gel include burning or stinging, eye pain, eye discharge, and headache.
Timoptic can also cause blurred vision and dizziness. Do not drive or operate heavy machinery until you know how Timoptic affects you.
