Summer Survival Guide for Healthy Families
It may sound like the most basic of all health advice, but drinking enough water is crucial to your health, especially in the heat of summer. The American College of Sports Medicine recommends that athletes and active individuals consume two 16-ounce glasses of water two hours before engaging in strenuous activity. If you’re going for an afternoon bike ride, be sure you’ve planned ahead and are well-hydrated so your body can absorb all of the fluids it will need. While sugary drinks like fruit juices and sodas may also contain water, they’re not the best choice for hydration because the sugar makes it more difficult for the stomach to quickly absorb the water it needs. Keep it simple — drink plenty of water.
