Know Your Family Tree

Know your family’s health history so you know your risks. Did your father, brother or any other close male relatives have prostate or colon cancer? If so, you may have a raised risk for these conditions. Having close family members with a history of colorectal polyps or inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) also increases the risk for colon cancer. Being aware of this family history could help you take steps in prevention and monitoring to catch any cancerous cells early, when they’re easier to treat.
