No Shortage of Hepatitis C Treatments

The FDA approved Viekira Pak (ombitasvir/paritaprevir/ritonavir/dasabuvir) in late 2014 to treat patients with chronic hepatitis C infection, including those with cirrhosis (a scarring of the liver). Viekira Pak can be given either with or without ribavirin. This combination drug contains three new medications that work together to slow the growth of the virus. Viekira Pak also contains ritonavir, which is used to increase blood levels of paritaprevir. Viekira Pak comes in tablet form. Two ombitasvir, paritaprevir and ritonavir tablets are taken once daily, while one dasabuvir tablet is taken twice daily.
