Health Benefits of Running

Running and the Risk of Cancer

Cancer kills almost 575,000 people a year in the US, making it the second leading cause of death. While there is no all-encompassing solution to prevent cancer, lifestyle factors such as exercise and diet certainly play a role in cancer risk. Not only does obesity increase the risk of developing cancer, there is evidence that the risk of breast, colon and prostate cancer decreases as physical activity levels increase. There is even evidence that exercise may influence other aspects of cancer treatment, including detection, coping, rehabilitation and survival rates after diagnosis.
