Health Benefits of Running

Remember: Running Isn’t Low Impact

Before you strap on some tennis shoes and hit the road, it is important to remember that running isn’t considered a low-impact activity. Intense exercises like running carry your whole body weight and have the potential to cause strain or injury if you are obese or have severe knee or hip arthritis. Consider starting with water-based aerobic activities and working your way up to jogging if conditions like multiple sclerosis, obesity or arthritis impact your joints and balance to the point that you do not feel safe running. It is also a good idea to consult your doctor before making any major changes in your activity levels.
