Some Americans believe that adding fluoride to the public water supply to reduce tooth decay is actually a secret way for companies to dump dangerous chemicals into the environment. The National Cancer Institute says that water fluoridation can help prevent and reverse tooth decay and that research has shown no harmful effects like cancer or weakening of bones from fluoride in drinking water.
