Risk Factors for Colon Cancer

There are many factors that increase risk for colorectal cancer, including age, inflammatory bowel conditions, family history, diet, obesity and lack of exercise. Since most cases begin from noncancerous polyps, doctors recommend regular colon screenings after the age of 50 to catch the disease in its early stages or before it becomes cancerous.
